I will be honest with you I was not going to review this track from Blacktoothed as initially It did not grip me, but as Pulse went on, I found myself finding the hidden gems of the track from the melodies to the hooks to raw power of the track met with some stunning production.

This one is defiantly a grower and may take a listen or two.

Next up are ThornHill and their track Hollywood taken from their upcoming album heroine out June 3 2022

I love Hollywood as I can hear cues from Deftones, it has this atmospheric feel, and with thick bass lines and groves.

A soaring chorus with big soundscapes, this is the perfect track to kick and back and just relax I love it.

A really nice upbeat track with a cool 70/80’s classic rock tones, this will be one for you if you love bands like Blackstone cherry, BlackBerry smoke, AC/DC.

As I’ve already mentioned it’s an upbeat track matched with a great set of vocals, packed with hooks in the chorus, a track to really tap your foot too some nice keys on the track too If you like a bit of piano, Go and check this one out

lastly this week are appeal to authority and their stunning single Black Aura

check out the video for Black Aura here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPbuA0FCqmg&t=250s

I really love cues this band take from bands like Tool and I felt like I was picking up a little bit of a system of a down vibe with the start to the track that may just be me.

I love how this track goes from strength to strength there are different layers being added weather that be more guitars or different vocals styles. Black Aura is not afraid to take different twists and turns whilst still delivering a track at 8.09 with plenty of grove some impressive guitar tones. Can’t wait to hear what’s next from these guys

EP 94 Single reviews for MALEVOLENCE silverstein CrowBar From Deep Shade SickSense Rain City Drive

February 27, 2022

MALEVOLENCE on broken glass taken from the new album MALICIOUS INTENT

Broken glass comes out the gates swinging.

So much energy to this track straight away riffs and some killer early tones

And then boom the energy intensifies a whole another level.

Packed with Riff and powerful hooks what a way to announce yourself to your new label.

If you like your music fast and heavy this is for you, I’m really not surprised when you have people like Matt Heafy of Trivium singing this bands praises, every word of praise is fully deserved, I cannot wait to see this band take over the British metal scene

Give this one a spin.

Check out the killer video for Broken Glass here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqoFbD1xVWM

Next up Silverstein and their new track ULTRAVIOLET

which is take from the upcoming album Misery Made Me 6 May 2022

Another track that carry’s plenty of energy and bounce sees Silverstein releasing their second single from their upcoming album Misery Made Me, I love this plenty of energy as I have said already some great hooks/melodies and tones as well some killer production.

Really looking forwarded to Misery Made Me as well as hopefully seeing them live at Slamdunk.

Next up this week sees the return of Crowbar to the show and their new single Bleeding From Every Hole which is taken from the bands upcoming album zero and below, on 4th March via MNRK Heavy

Check the video for Bleeding From Every Hole here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLAdKSKa4tk

This is one for anyone who loves their riffs slugy and with a chug like sound, to be honest it’s a track that despite giving it a couple of listeners I just could not connect, I like the thick opening bass line, and like I say if you’re a fan of slug then I think you will be a fan of the track let me know your thoughts on this one.

https://open.spotify.com/artist/0W2BpSvwuR2UPoOTd5xr5C

This was one that for me I felt it got stronger as it went on, if you a fan of the late Scott Weiland then I think this one is for you as it soaked in Stone temple pilots and Velvet revolver with hints of grunge.

Some very interesting choice of production here with a trumpet I think it works it’s a bold and an interesting move, I liked this and I want to hear me as it touches on bands I love.

Next up Sicksense and their new single Kings today

Check out the video for Kings Today here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWv8yR2o6Zc

Kings Today opens with an explosion of riffs killer production and some great vocal displays you have screams mixed with some rapping and then some melody which I love, these 3 vocal styles together really work well on the track. Whilst these vocals are ongoing added to the mix is this heavy riff matched to slap you in the face. A really cool and fun track keen so see where this bands goes next

Sicksense online

https://www.facebook.com/sickxsense
https://twitter.com/sickxsense

https://www.instagram.com/sickxsense

lastly this week are Rain City Drive and their latest track Dreams

check out the video for Dreams here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuNIkNcHBvo&feature=youtu.be

https://www.facebook.com/raincitydrive

https://www.tiktok.com/@raincitydrive

https://twitter.com/raincitydrive

https://www.youtube.com/c/thrillerrecords

Dreams is a track that is so different to what I have already featured this week, it’s a slightly more of poppier sounding track with a lot of production, but yet it offers a really great feel plenty of energy and some killer hooks in the chorus and the guitar tones sound great.

Memphis May Fire online

This one gets off the line with ease

Opening with a nice electronic beat, meat by some very strong vocal displays with harmony/melodies which explode into a powerful chorus with a soaring hooks and powerful guitar with some very impressive tones. Make believe strongest point is that it continues to evolve adding layers along the way from more guitars, more hooks and drums. As you can tell I really like this track its one to add to the playlist or into your library

Next up is Diamante and Lit and the track America Dream

It’s another track that gets off to a flyer with strong riffs and some really impressive vocals

America Dream has this rawness and power behind it with a strong set off vocals and this riff/crunchiness from the guitars makes this a track to really crank up, the combination of vocal displays is really cool and has a perfect blend of different vocal tones and yet retains this power and drive to the track

Go and check this one out

Finally, this week is Archetypes collide and their track Undertow

Closing this week is another belter of a track Undertow offers plenty of energy as well as a feeling of early Nu Metal vibes

Packed with crushing riffs and hooks and strong breakdowns. A really strong vocal display with melodies.

I really like the production on this track, for me it feels like the perfect blends of early Nu metal vibes blends and some of today’s sounds

Go and check this one out, I’m excited to hear more from these guys.

Next up we are discussing the brand new album from Bristol based Shoun Shoun and their new album Monsters and heroes

I start by saying welcoming Shoun Shoun to the show,

I will be really honest here and say this one I’m still on the fence I have only giving this a couple of plays and I’m not sure if a I love it or not.

it’s an album that is covered in this 60’s mystic vibe which I really like the album has plenty of grove and energy, and displaying these really impressive tones and production, at times I was picking up sprinkles and cues taken from perhaps artists like Blonde and no doubt

the overall feel and sound is one that I felt like I had been taken back in time to the 60’s in London which is not a knock to the album.

I’m glad I gave this a go and open to another few listens, let me know what you think.

Next up I will be discussing StromBringer and their latest album AIIV

https://twitter.com/UKSTORMBRINGER

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3EfMOFJhTlTXCKt5MlJ1Sw

StormBringer first came to my attention almost 10 years ago when I went to a local show and end up coming away in ore of the band who on the night were main support, fast forwarded in time I ended up booking StormBringer to headline a charity event a few months before the event the band was in search of a new front man and one of the guitarists was recovering from some serious medical issues, none the less the event went ahead as planned. over the years band have continued to put out a strong catalogue despite line-up changes on guitars and most recently on vocals with Mike the original bands vocalist coming back into the fold

AIIV sees the band following up on what in my view was the bands best album to date in Born a dying breed which was riff heavy and somewhat a power house of an album with a great a killer anthem of a title track and tracks like Smoother, Stick to your guns and Bleed for

AIIV has that classic StormBringer sound with that most of you will love the guitar tones are still there and without doubt the guitars on this album are on another level some really impressive tones/solos are on display. vocally the album is superb Mike’s vocals are incredible a very impressive performance from him.

AIIV is truly an album that takes cues from bands like Alice in chains, Velvet Revolver Alter bridge, Iron maiden. packed from soaring chorus to hooks to pull you in and get to get stuck in your head to have your singing them at the top of your lungs and some breath taking vocal and guitar displays a very enjoyable album.

a very good Rock album a solid 9/10 stand out tracks Medication, Mourning Rose

'Thankless ‘is a track that see me stepping outsider my comfort zone, it’s not the sort of track I would jump to put on straight away purely because it’s not a genre I often listen too,

However thankless has plenty of grove, a catchy riff and some thick bass lines, whilst offering a melodic hook in the chorus. Whilst still capturing this hardcore essence, there is so much more going on here with 'Thankless', an impressive display of some melodic tones to just bring the track down in tempo and then as quickly it brings calm it picks back up the pace. A very impressive track

next up are Crowbar and their brand new single 'Chemical Godz' which is taken from the bands upcoming album zero and below, on 4th March via MNRK Heavy

Chemical Godz offers a nice sludgy riff with plenty of power and energy behind it, I noticed the track evolves into a prog like sound which I really enjoyed it’s not a track that stays in one lane. Plenty of different breakdown’s twist and turns, overall, a great track to introduce a new album.

Next up out in colour and their new track Snakebite

Check out the video for Snakebite here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkUL88AUeug

Snakebit opens with this really catchy drum and base feel, it’s a track that has a lot of energy to it, if you’re a fan of Pendulum then this will fit easily into your playlist, as I’ve said its energy levels are off the chart, I love the hook in the chorus as it offers plenty of melody. The track really explodes into another gear towards the end the tempo just increases, overall, a great listen something different.

A track that is constantly evolving weather that be in the melodies the amazing catchy hooks, to the great tones and then a shift in tempo at the end

I really love this for its melody and hooks, freaky love really does have a naturally great feel to this, especially with the guitar tones and the power of the guitars

EP 87 Setting The Tone‘s Albums of the year top 10 of 2021

EP 87 Setting The Tone‘s Albums of the year top 10 of 2021

November 27, 2021

TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2021

  1. Trivium In The Court Of The Dragon- simply because ever since arrival of Alex Bent in 2017 the band has gone from strength

Alex joined in 2017 and what followed in my opinion was Trivium’s best album to date The sin And The Sentence, the band followed up in 2020 with the latest album What The Dead Men Say and I honestly could not believe what I was hearing the guys had yet again put another stunner of album, with the addition of Alex the band had gone up a whole level and sounded the best they had ever done, fast-forwarded a year through COVID times and the guys dropped In The Court Of The Dragon which again in my view is their best album they have put out, this is an album that see the guys again raising the bar and taking cues from all of their back catalogue and combining it into their best work to date,  I don’t think it’s no coincidence that since the Alex they guys have put out a stunning tribology of albums together long may it continue  my love for this band like many runs deep.

  1. Mastodon Hushed And Grim- to be honest this album could have easily taken the number one spot this year between Trivium and Mastodon they both have delivered stunning albums in 2020 and its hard to choose between the two of them both are very different bands and very different albums, but both amazing. Hushed And Grim is an album that the. More you listening to it, it just grows and get stronger on each listen, with so many different layers to each song on the album, the album is a great album to chill out too.

  1. Gojira Fortitude- the 7th album from the guys, I feel this is a real return to form, packed with heavier riffs and melodic tones, a sense of a real drive behind this album it feels a bit lighter than Magma in the sense there’s a real bounce to it.

  1. Holding Absence, The Greatest Mistake of My Life- this one feel like it came out a life time ago no just April 2021, this is the second album from these guys and wow they have put together a masterpiece of an album the opening track on this alone is one of the songs of 2021 it’s a perfect opener to any show

  1. URNE Serpent and Sprit -sometimes you are meet with a surprise in life and honestly, I think we all found that this year URNE, if it was not for an email from their PR company to ask for my thoughts, I would never have found this band, in such a short amount of time these 3 guys have quickly grown in popularity, Serpent and Sprit sometimes showcases the bands talents as it takes cues from their influences

  1. As Everything Unfolds within each lies the other- the debt album from this incredible band who no doubt have had a great year recently just completed a tour with Holding Absence, within each lies the other offers some great guitar tones, stunning vocals, hooks and drive without doubt one of the albums of 2021 the future is very bright for this band.

  1. Myles Kennedy- put out The Ides of March the follow up to year of the tiger, being honest this blows the first album out of the water with some great writing some awesome guitar tones, Ides of March is so delicate and yet such a great listen.

  1. Mammoth WVH losing a parent is never easy especially when you’re the son of one of the world’s best guitarist the universe has ever seen. What I loved about this album was it really showcased Wolfgang own talents it allowed him to step out onto his own forge his own legacy a great rock album with a touching track to EVH Distance. And also, this album for me wins artwork of the year I would recommend buying it on vinyl to truly appreciate the detail in the artwork.

  1. A Day to Remember You’re Welcome, -all thou this album seemed to take forever to come out for whatever reason. It’s one that overall is not this bands best in terms of heavy hitters but this does contain some amazing tacks like last chance, blood sucker, resentment and looks like hell and its one that had to make my list

  1. Limp Bizkit Still Sucks-This one is a late arrival some may consider this 32 mins of pure popp, but for me I’m just happy to have LB back if you have ever taken the time to listen to a LB album from front to back particularly their earlier work then this album will not come as a surprise. Stand out track for me Out of style because Wes Bowland Riff and that line from Fred we should be on the same team.
