Brand new Episode out now
Setting The Tone URNE special
Today’s Episode is all about the incredible Urne who to be honest I have found myself taking a crash course about them, on the 25thJune 2021 the band released their full length Lp Serpent and Spirit.
I personally love the album, I have not listened to many albums that really make you feel something as of late, I think Urne are the surprise band of 2021, very few really nail their debut album yeah sure there are good debut albums.
But I believe Urne really have hit this one out of the park, as everything is just spot on form the epic guitars, the vocal styes that don’t stick to one tone or style which is epic.
Serpent and Spirit is perhaps the most complete metal album you will hear this year, 10/10
I also had a chance to sit down with the bands front man and bass player Joe Nally to discuss the album and their thoughts on the reactions received and the plans for 2021 as well as other topics discussed, again thank you to Joe for his time.
Urne next performance is at this years Bloodstock Festival current restrictions permitting
Don’t forget Urne will be on the road in December supporting the mighty Orange Goblin which is really impressive, the shows promises to be something truly awesome as there are some amazing bands on the bill.

Leap Of Faith well what can I say it feels like these guys are not afraid to mix pop punk with metal elements it feels like Leap of faith has this perfect blend of poppunk moments in terms of energy in the clean vocals to the screams the unclean vocals to that say of While she sleeps. Overall the track is amazing well produced and plenty of energy all the best to these guys.

2205 opens with this really cool riff and tone straight away I’m hooked, 2205 has this way of crossing over naturally between the lighter moments and the heavier moments of the track with little effort I really like this, it does not feel forced, the way this track switches from melody to the growls in the vocals is epic and the hooks in the chours are awesome to hear,

thoughts on Secret Garden, I really love Spiritbox there’s a lot of hype around this band right now and rightly so they have put out their debut album pre order links and within 24 hours all the colour variants of their vinyl had sold out, Secret Garden is a more melodic approach and offers another side of the spectrum to this band, I really love the guitar tones and riff in secret garden, the melodies there’s some real energy behind secret garden I feel that its been built with this natural bounce and I love that , I will say this believe in the hype Spritbox have all the tools and more to become real stars.

Thoughts on 'Devastation' well its packed with a real punch from the word go, packed with melody hooks that hit you hard, I really like this from the drive in the vocals to the riffs and punch from the guitars, it’s a track that will go down very well as you will have your fist in the air screaming the chorus, now I wont pretend to know much about bands like Amon Amarth, Nightwish but I can hear so much of that classic Scandinavian sound, but this feels fresh its feels new and I really like it, go and check this one out.
Lastly THE FINAL CLAUSE OF TACITUS who have a brand new EP Asinine Music For The Solemn And Staid Ep

I really Love the Ep there’s a lot of different sounds going on here weather that be the bands influences from Rage Against the Machine to Linkin park to the sounds of The Beastie Boys,
Its an ep packed with real punch in the guitars and thick Bass lines that remind a little bit of fle from the red hot chilli peppers, to the vocal hooks I feel there is something here for many to enjoy. A real pleasure to listen too as this is a band to keep your eyes on.
Packed with energy punch, a joy to listen too 5 stars from Setting The Tone, standout out track I can talk to you love the Beastie boys vibes crank this one up.

New episode out now.
To kick off the show this week we start with UK Metal/Grime crew Hacktivist who have just unleashed their second single Reprogram https://youtu.be/nY9PJWSnuhY taken from their upcoming release Hyperdialect
Co-vocalist Jot Maxi comments:
"There’s a double meaning to this one. Society needs reprogrammed, Hacktivist has been reprogrammed, so if you’re listening and you’re vibing out to it, have a little think about what you might need to do in your own life to reprogram – to make yourself like yourself better, or to have less regret.
"Society needs a reboot, our band has had a reboot, so why don’t you? At the same time, it’s got this little science fiction story within it, about a future that breaks down and actually needs reprogrammed from zero. In an ideal world, hopefully, we will have all reprogrammed before anything like that happens to us for real."
Hyperdialect will be released on 18th June 2021 via UNFD, and is available to pre-order here: https://unfd.lnk.to/hyperdialect
Hacktivist recently announced a special one-off headline show to celebrate the release of Hyperdialect. Set to take place on 29th July 2021 at London's Signature Brew, support will come from rising artist Kid Bookie who features on the band's single 'Armoured Core'.

Reprogramme for me is classic Hacktivist big riffs with thick bass lines that hit hard almost like a punch to the chest, mixed with grime elements, lyrically reprogramme is genius production is great crisp clean as always from these guys who are never afraid to keep pushing boundaries, I can’t speak highly enough of these guys they are great at their own induvial crafts and bring this all together to give us their unique sound, a great track to kick off the show with.
Next track of the week
They Fell From The Sky who are making their Setting The Tone debut
They Fell From The Sky who are Colin Doran - Vocals
Jason Bowld - Drums
Dave Draper - Guitars, Programming
Lee Erinmez – Bass
Oly Edkins - Guitars, Backing Vocals
Release a brand new track crush https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atL5uqqRNKw
They Fell From The Sky formed after Colin Doran (Hundred Reasons) and Jason Bowld (Bullet For My Valentine, Pitchshifter, Killing Joke) got together for Jason’s collaborative project ‘This Is Menace’. They then started writing with Dave Draper and completed the line up with Lee Erinmez (Snuff) and Oly Edkins.
Once in the studio the band’s songwriting flourished and an album began to take shape, blending the multitude of styles each member brought to the table. The songs started to flow and the sound honed to make the unique songwriting juggernaut that is ‘They Fell From The Sky’.
Their upcoming single ‘Dry’ is a perfect example of the bands ability to mix their heavier backgrounds with mainstream appeal, taken from their debut album due for release in the Spring of 2021. The album is produced by the band’s guitarist Dave Draper, who’s best known for his work with The Wildhearts, The Professionals and Kerbdog.
Commenting on the track, vocalist and lyricist Colin Doran explains: “It’s about people who are consistently only apologetic when absolutely caught out; But are not actually sorry at all.”

what I love about Crush is a can hear an element of Rise against us, this punk rock vibe with big hooks and melody but the guys here are not afraid not add their own ideas on this track weather that be a slight growl on the vocals as an example
I really like crush and I’m keen to see what else comes from They Fell From the Sky
Next this week is the return of One Last Day
South-East rockers ONE LAST DAY are proud to unleash their new single THIS BOTTLE GOT ME
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyigRypD1ZM&feature=youtu.be
About One Last Day
It started with a single jam session between two guitar loving friends. Gareth Stapleton and John Harmsworth knew they had the start of something that could work. With a shared desire to deliver heavy yet accessible music, One Last Day's journey was born. Of course, at this point there were no other members, no plan, not even the name!
Through the creative development, the guys started playing with different musicians and cementing the direction they wanted to progress, with the addition of Adrian Osman on drums, they found a kindred spirit and also the solid backdrop on which they could deliver. As active members of the South East music scene, they already knew of the vocal prowess of Alex Willox, and after a few hours in a dingy practice room, One Last Day had found its voice, literally.
ONE LAST DAY are:

Okay so this is a welcome back to the show for this band and I recall speaking about their debut single and like I don’t want to slam this because the positive is it’s a new band coming out during a pandemic and all thou I was not blown away by their debut single, I wanted to hear what else was to come rather than just shutting them down, well I’m pleased with the latest offering
What I like straight away is the tone of Alex vocals it reminds me a little bit of Howard Jones vocals what is love single The chorus has a massive hook will and will easily have you pulled in, the tempo is really important on this as track is not afraid to speed up or slow down at any stage, and this even time for a bit of a Rammstein influence towards the end where the words I lose my mind are being reparteed, overall it’s a great follow up single and there is plenty of room for this band to grow.
Lastly this week we have Next up is a band who are no strangers to Setting The Tone, welcome back to NO:IR who have just unleashed their brand new single Phantom
Since their debut in 2019, Bristol-based Nu-Metal five-piece NO:IR have evolved their sound from their hardcore roots to create a modern fusion from a host of genres. They take deep inspiration - and their name, from Film Noir, often characterised by cynicism, intricate plots and existential philosophy.
With four previous successful singles under their belt, the band have achieved more than 100,000 streams on Spotify. Their innate blend of rap and metal draws on an array of influences including emo, hip-hop and dark pop. This has resulted in a signature re-imagination of the Nu-Metal sound; their upcoming single Phantom due for release May 7th 2021, captures this perfectly.
Produced, Mixed and Mastered with Josh Gallop (Phoxjaw) at Stage 2 Studios in Bath, Phantom challenges and explores the honesty and authenticity around an artist’s image. Established artists show a diverse variety of personalities, with some being completely transparent about their feelings and life stories; and some being the opposite, creating new identities or writing about fictitious situations in order to seem more appealing or interesting.

https://music.apple.com/us/artist/no-ir/84853764
https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/noir3/phantom
I wont lie and pretend to hide my excitement these guys have been on my radar for a while I really love what they have to offer.
Phantom is a slightly different take on what has come before, it’s a slightly more melodic feel almost like this is NO:IR ballad and that’s fine there is almost like a grime feel to phantom, bars are being spit.
Overall it’s different from what has come before there is not as much high energy behind this, but this is perfect for a set as you can bring the pace down with this track and pick up later.

New episode out now.
London metal trio Urne have released a studio video for current single Desolate Heart, taken from their upcoming debut album Serpent & Spirit, set for release on 25th June via Candlelight Records.
Capturing the atmosphere of the Serpent & Spirit recording sessions, watch the video to 'Desolate Heart' here: https://youtu.be/YA58tDXz-9Y
Stream 'Desolate Heart' and pre-order Serpent & Spirit here: https://URNE.lnk.to/SerpentandSpiritPR
The video footage was filmed by guitarist Angus Neyra during the Serpent & Spirit recording sessions in Oct 2020 at Foel Studio in Wales, with Chris Fielding on engineering duties.
Bassist / vocalist Joe Nally commented: "We wanted to capture the feel of the studio itself as its in such a remote location, and every day the valley would fill with fog and silence. At night the only light comes from the moon and stars completely unpolluted. It's an incredible place to record and we feel it helped set the mood for the album."
On 'Desolate Heart', Joe continues: "The song 'Desolate Heart' had been in the making years before Urne actually formed, but was never completed."
During the writing process for Serpent & Spirit, Joe found an old demo of the first few minutes of the track, and instantly knew it had to be finished. 'Desolate Heart' subsequently became the first single released from the album.
There is no single way that Urne describe their sound, it all comes back to one thing: heavy. There are shades of Metallica, Mastodon, Alice In Chains in there, hopping between sludge, tech-metal, doom, hardcore and anything else with a weighty heart.
Formed by ex-Hang The Bastard bassist Joe Nally and guitarist Angus Neyra after their former band called it quits, the pair already had a reputation for big, heavy riffs. Getting drummer Richard Harris on board in 2018, they gilded their new outfit with debut EP The Mountain Of Gold, which immediately marked Urne out as a formidable new metallic force.
Now, they return with debut album Serpent & Spirit. Heavier, wider and with an even higher ratio of killer riffs than the EP, it also comes with a weighty concept based around the central character’s struggle as he’s pulled between good and evil, darkness and light.
“I had a bit of a bad patch for a few months,” explains Joe, revealing the inspiration for the album’s lyrics. “I’m absolutely fine now, but I drew on those two months where I just wasn’t feeling great. I took that and wrote a story based about that. The actual track-listing is done like that film Memento, where it’s all in a different order. Maybe one day someone will listen to the lyrics and work out which order the story goes in.
“The album is called Serpent & Spirit. The spirit is the human experience, the serpent is the evil that tricks your mind. It’s about getting pulled apart and trying to find yourself within all of that. So it’s almost good and evil, and throughout the album it’s about a person getting pulled from the light to the dark.”
Due to COVID, the final parts of the album were written over Skype, before being recorded by Chris Fielding (Conan, Electric Wizard, Primordial) at Foel Studios in deepest Wales during lockdown. It was then sent to acclaimed producer Jens Bogren who handled the mastering of Serpent & Spirit.
Urne have announced a UK tour in support of Serpent & Spirit. Catch them on the following dates:
Wed 7th July - Bournemouth - Anvil
Thu 8th July - London - The Black Heart
Fri 9th July - Birmingham - Dead Wax
Sat 10th July - Manchester - Star & Garter

Richard Harris - Drums

Desolate Heart we kick off the show with an absolute tune, at just over 8 mins Desolate Heart offers so much from crushing drum blast, to guitars riffs that would punch a hole in the Ozone layer, I won’t lie to you this took me a couple of listen to get to grips as I really struggled with the vocals in the verse but the choruses just have this natural big hook to them to pull you in.
What really has grab my attention with this track is the way it grows and gets stronger and stronger, Desolate Heart really is a power house of a single from the upcoming release of Serpent & Spirit it goes from strength to strength, don’t stand still on this one, truly one hella of a track to kick off the show with
TRENDKILL and their single Obsession
Northern heavyweights, TRENDKILL, have revealed their brand-new video and single, Obsession - https://youtu.be/TP0GeUMsrSY . The track is a layered slab of groove-induced thrash metal that showcases the band’s deft ability to produce captivating heavy music steeped with riffs, dynamics, rage, and intensity.
Comprised of Alistair Lisle (Vocals), Jonny Stern (Guitar), Isaac Edwards (Bass and Backing Vocals), and Corey Bennett (Drums), TRENDKILL come at you from the North East of England. Formed in 2014 as initially just a garage cover band, it didn’t take the metal upstarts long to realise that they had the drive and dexterity to forge their own unique path.
By 2016, TRENDKILL put out their debut release, EP One, which helped to place the youngsters firmly on the map. Many reviews, streams and sales were acquired, along with an invitation to tour throughout the UK, which included a thunderous slot at Bloodstock Festival. The quartet backed their debut EP with the release of their sophomore EP, Black Moon. The record again moved the burly metallers forward, earning them much praise and acclaim. Original vocalist Elliot Bartram, however, departed the group in 2019, and after an extensive search, TRENDKILL recruited new friend and powerhouse vocalist, Alistair Lisle. The band marked their triumphant return last year in supreme style by dropping their new single, Struck From Existence.
The foursome are set to take 2021 by the scruff of the neck, and they are loaded up with their strongest track to date, Obsession. The single is a fury of thrash, groove, and metal, wrapped around anthemic hooks and peppered with contemporary lyrical themes. The band elaborate: "The theme behind Obsession is addiction, whether it's sex, food, drugs or even social media. Addiction is a very real and dominating issue in many people's lives, possibly even more so now during a time where we're all trying to cope through a particularly challenging time”.
With further material on the way, and with the addition of a new management team, Unearthed Music Management, the future is looking very bright.

Obsession reminds me of classic Dream theatre, the track starts with a really nice acoustic opening and slowly builds from this foundation into a full on assault of crushing vocals for the chorus which is met with a crushing riff, for me about halfway through Obbession is really where this goes into another life, fast paced guitars with crushing solos with amazing drums beats to match we have gone back to the late 80’s where thrash was king and that’s exactly what Obsession sounds like it’s a mixture of pure brilliance of melody and harmony matched with power and thrash, this is another track that is out of this world.
Friday, April 30th, 2020 - (Los Angeles) - Canadian metal outfit and one of this year's hottest break out bands, Spritbox have released a brand new song "Circle With Me" today on Rise Records . The track features the glorious combination of ethereal vocals, bombastic riffs and savage screams that make up the utterly unique Spiritbox calling card. It is accompanied by a gorgeous music video directed by Orie McGinness, that perfectly compliments the lyrical theme of the song with a constantly revolving shot around the band as they perform. A lot is being said about these guys rightly so you could say never mind trees being pulled up acres of forests are in this band’s sights. The guys have just unleashed Circle with Me, and in all honesty, I get why there so much of a spotlight on these guys right now.
Circle With Me straight will hit you in the chest a real punch to the chest with the guitars will be felt, there is plenty of melody here in the chorus as it has a natural fit
I really Love Courtney vocals as she can easily go from clean to growls in her vocals.

New episode out now. BROKEN LINKS
BRIT DARK ELECTRO ROCK THREESOME RETURN WITH NEW ALBUM & MORE!
BROKEN LINKS express melodic and hook laden alternative rock that is dark, haunting and potent. Loaded with atmospheric guitars, melancholic vocals and electronic soundscapes, the UK dark rock combo will reveal their stunning third album, Conflict::States, on Friday 30th April. The band have also just unleashed a spanking new single and video for the track, Pioneers - https://youtu.be/j8OtHWe6zDA
Originally drawing influences from an assortment of areas stretching from the Manic Street Preachers, Depeche Mode, and Nine Inch Nails to The Chemical Brothers and Massive Attack, BROKEN LINKS have meticulously formulated a hugely unique sound that is stacked with integrity and is utterly all-conquering. The three piece consist of Mark Lawrence (Vocals/Guitars), Lewis Betteridge (Bass), and Phil Boulter (Drums), and hail from Eastleigh. Since their inception in 2008, the threesome have constantly pushed boundaries, endeavouring with much success to create new pathways and avenues for their ever-evolving sound.
BROKEN LINKS have built a formidable and loyal fanbase following the self-release of three EPs and two albums, and by playing shows with the likes of British Sea Power, The Boxer Rebellion, InMe, My Vitriol, and The Chameleons in the UK, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, and Italy. This year, BROKEN LINKS return with their fiery new album, Conflict::States. The album is an angry declaration aimed at the current state of the world. Mark Lawrence (Vocals & Guitars) explains: “People are living in a world where they think they have choices. There are no choices. We’re on borrowed time. This album is a statement of awareness to all the shit holding society back.” From top to bottom, the album is a heady fusion of goth-electro, post-punk, and pop-rock that takes the listener on a powerful aural experience.

Pioneers is a great track to kick off the show with, packed with harmony and melodies both vocally and electronically, what I really love about this track is the perfect mix of the electronic elements meeting the guitars because they complement each other perfectly, there are moments in this the song where it kinda of reminded me of a 30 seconds to mars meets Depeche mode.
Overall, I really enjoyed this track and I hope you do!
Californian quartet Hail The Sun have released new single / video 'Misfire', taken from their album, New Age Filth, released 16th April via Rude Records (UK/EU) Equal Vision (NA).
Watch the video to 'Misfire' here: https://youtu.be/xGQYE_epZG4
Purchase New Age Filth here: newagefilth.com and stream here: https://hts.lnk.to/newagefilth
Speaking about the track vocalist and drummer Donovan Melero states, “'Misfire' is about feeling so detached from everyone that even while going through the motions of normal behaviors, it feels like you're watching yourself as an outsider. We often try to validate ourselves in ways we think are necessary.”
'Made Your Mark' follows previous singles 'Made Your Mark', 'Domino' and 'Parasitic Cleanse', giving a taste of the expansive and genre-defying sounds found across New Age Filth.
When Hail The Sun entered the studio to record what would become New Age Filth, they knew they were setting out to make their most collaborative and diverse album yet. The band, consisting of Donovan Melero (vocals/drums), Aric Garcia (guitar), John Stirrat (bass) and Shane Gann (guitar), spent a month living in an apartment attached to producer Kris Crummett’s studio which provided a much different experience from the creation of prior albums.
The ten songs on New Age Filth showcase the band’s post-hardcore roots blended with elements of alternative and progressive rock, proving the band’s ability to be extremely technical in instrumentation while also unleashing some of the catchiest hooks they’ve ever created. The lyrics, penned by Melero, centre around the theme of reflection, weaving through painful and emotional experiences of love, cynicism, and touching on how awful humans can be to one another.
Having sold through nine vinyl variants before the album was released, the anticipation for the record marks a milestone in the band’s career not only from a fan perspective but for the band to share these songs and watch as they take on purpose.

'Ballad Of The Headless Horseman is our next single this week and I must admit when this dropped into my inbox this week, I was instantly taken by the bands imagery and the name, Mister Misery just feels like a great band name for the genre of music this band deliver.
The track its self does not hold back its straight away in your face, and for all you circle pit lovers out there, I have no doubt when live gigs return if you have not started a pit you will when this kicks in.
Mister Misery without doubt will give the scene a much needed injection, if you’re a fan of bands like Black Veil Brides, Motionless in White, Wednesday 13 then you will be right at home with Mister Misery as this single is packed with elements of those bands the double kick bass drums, to the fast guitars with riffs and solos. This band are a must if you’re a fan of the bands I’ve mentioned as I’ve already said they are going to give the scene a much needed injection!

Quick off the back of their latest successful EP release ‘Sanctuary Lines’, Yard Arms are back again with their new single ‘Hollow Ankles’, due for release April 23rd. As a massive Stone sour fan I am familiar with Josh Rands body of work and whilst stone sour are on a hiatus, its great to see Josh not just fade into the shadows.
The Nothingless is packed with Riffs and a lot of punch from Josh on guitar, Casandra Carson delivers a some awesome vocals on the track, but I could not help draw on compassions between Casandra vocal tone and that of Lizzy hale from Halestorm, not a bad comparison to be honest as Halestorm and Lizzy are awesome. I feel this single is a grower and whilst on the first couple of listens I’m not bowled over I want to hear the rest of the Ep

New Episode Out Now
Mike’s Dead
“NIGHTMARES”
- Hard-hitting and darkly charismatic Los Angeles-based singer, rapper and producer, Mike’s Dead, has dropped brand new music video for "Nightmares", the second single to be taken from his upcoming 'Revenge EP'. The video offers a macabre, twisted narrative of a relationship gone wrong that sees Mike suffer at the hands of an unhinged girlfriend. Watch the video here or by clicking the image below. Find the track on DSPs here.
"Nightmares" follows previous, punk tinged “SICK”, which was released earlier this month and has clocked up 110,000 streams across platforms since release. These new songs mark a sonic shift that has seen Mike's Dead embrace the influence of the nu-metal and hard rock he grew up on (Nine Inch Nails, Limp Bizkit, Korn and Linkin Park) and provide Mike's rabid, 1 million+ fanbase with a great taste of what's to come with his upcoming ‘Revenge EP’.
Providing some further insight on "Nightmares", Mike’s Dead shares
"With "Nightmares" I really wanted to show my versatility as an artist. This is the first song I’ve ever released with any sort of falsetto singing. I think fans are going to connect with this one a lot - especially the music video. I wanted to keep the same level of darkness that my videos have so we went with a plot based idea where I get fed raw meat by a psychotic girlfriend. Super sick. Definitely an out of the box idea."

My thoughts
I really love this track it really demonstrates all of mikes musical taste from Gary Numan , Nine Inch Nail, Slipknot, it’s a great track very dark and gothic my only issues is towards the end of the track it picks up pace I just wished it had offered a bit more during the first half of the track but this does stop how cool the single is.
Next this week is the return of DohnyJep and. the news that they are set to release their second ep in 2021.
Shallow Is The Water', due for release May 28th 2021.via Favour The Brave Records.
The first single due from the upcoming EP is Fade due on April 9 2021, now other than this I don’t have too much for you in terms of singles are videos I can share just yet. What I can say is this I honestly love Shallow Is The Water.
Personally, I was slightly disappointed with their first Ep Smile It May Never Happen which as released earlier this year, it just did not quite reach the same level as the tracks from Lust.
However, I really like these guys and I think if you’re a fan of bands like Don Broco, Enter Shikari then you will find a place for them.
Keep an eye out for the single Fade out April 9 and then the release of the Ep Shallow Is The Water', due for release May 28th 2021

Unstable to be released 30 April via Napalm Records
Breakout metal stars Tetrarch have continued to deliver on their promise of taking over the metal scene in 2021 with the release of their two successful new singles, 'I'm Not Right' and 'You Never Listen'. Today - in anticipation of their new album Unstable (out 30th April via Napalm Records) - they're dropping a third, 'Negative Noise'. |
|
I really really love 'Negative Noise' what hits me straight away is that TETRARCH are perhaps the NU NU metal trail blazers in a genre that has seen the likes of Korn, Limp Bizkit, Deftones, Linkin Park to name a few and then the genre kind of of fell away over the lst few years TETRARCH are not afraid to hone in on the these incredible bands and pull ideas together, 'Negative Noise' perfectly demonstrates this and is overall a great track with power, guitars and vocals with a punch and a killer guitar solo with a really cool tone.
TETRARCH are a band to keep your eyes on and your finger tips on the keys of your keyboard so that you don’t miss a thing, I really hope they can show case their talents in Europe.
