My thoughts, STANDING LIKE STATUES really have a great sound to them, and Stupid Love showcases their influences from taking back Sunday to Biffy Clyro, the thing I love more than anything about this track is the production is out of this world the guys have worked with the legendry Romesh Dodangoda who has worked with Funeral for a friend, Kids in glass houses, the blackout to name a few. The track has tones of melody and packed with some beautiful guitar tones and hooks to match I really enjoyed Stupid Love, if you’re a fan of Kids in glass houses, Biffy Clyro add this to your playlist.
Our next track sees Setting The Tone meeting a new band
Drop Down Smiling have just released a new track 'The Fear of Missing Out' check out the video www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaFY_P04Sro
Like the Phoenix from the ashes, the butterfly from the cocoon, Drop Down Smiling have emerged from their lockdown hibernation to bring you a brand-new track, aptly titled 'The Fear of Missing Out'.
You've missed out on a lot this year, don't miss out on this!
The Fear of Missing Out addresses the social pressures of ‘fitting in’ - the issues we face and self-destructive habits we form while under constant bombardment from ‘the-grass-is-greener-rose-tinted-glasses’ lifestyles presented to us on social media.
It’s a song about the anxiety that comes with comparing your regular life to the highlights of others’. Fuelled by the desire to be connected to others, especially this year, it’s about the skewed sense of ‘normal’ that develops when your main outlook on the world is through the glowing brick in your hand.
The Fear of Missing Out release is accompanied by a brand-new music video from the lads, featuring exclusive footage from the recording studio alongside their evocative lyrics to make sure you can scream them back at them when they can tour again.
Against a backdrop of generic indie and dull pop-punk regens, Drop Down Smiling stand out with a mix of modern rock, raucous electronica and rich, resonant four-part harmonies.
Having previously worked with Gavin Monaghan (Editors, The Twang, Ocean Colour Scene) & Jason Wilcock (You Me At Six, We Are The Ocean), The Fear of Missing Out was produced by Peter Dowsett of Abbey Road Studios (Scouting For Girls, Pharrell Williams & Snoop Dogg to name but a few).
Experimental yet organic, with high octane hooks and even higher energy on the stage, Drop Down Smiling have been described as ‘Biffy Clyro meets Bring Me the Horizon’ & ‘Red Hot Chilli Peppers meets System of a Down’. If those comparisons don’t warrant a listen, what the hell does?!
Drop Down Smiling have previously shared the stage with Saves The Day, We Are The Ocean, The Blackout, Lonely The Brave, Rat Attack, Lost Alone, Blitz Kids, Idiom and tonnes more, as well as performing at Wychwood Festival, Wizzfest, Godiva Festival and somehow playing to a wildly confused audience at The Clothes Show on the Kerrang! Stage at the NEC Arena (now Resorts World Arena).

Drop Down Smiling are
Chris West – Lead Singer/Guitarist
Michael Brown – Lead Guitarist/Backing Vocals
Martin Dale – Bassist/Backing Vocals
James Porter – Drummer/Samples/Backing Vocals
My thoughts Missing out for me was like if David Bowie and AFI made a track now I don’t say this as insult, you have Chris West vocals and at times they felt very Bowie and then when you add that to the chorus this is where the AFI element comes in
Missing out does a great job of mixing melody with some driving punchy guitar sounds, it’s a high octane track with tones of energy and hooks. Production on this is awesome.

EP 53 Setting The Tone‘s top 20 albums of 2020
Thursday Dec 24, 2020
Thursday Dec 24, 2020
Setting The Tone top 20 albums of 2020
#1Grey Daze Amends, okay so this is Setting The Tone number one album and there’s been a lot of emotion behind my call whilst this year has truly sucked for many for so many reasons, the one thing that has been amazing is this year we have had some stunning albums from so many different artists, we have had singles, and eps and albums that have all been great to distract us from the true reality of 2020.
so I have chosen Grey Daze and their album Amends, why you ask well simply I’m a huge fan of the 90’s Rock sound, but what this comes down to is that this is an album that is made up of original songs and re worked, sadly in 2017 the world lost an incredible artist in Chester Bennington, Grey Daze was the band he was in before Linkin Park prior to his death plans where in motion to play an anniversary show in Arizona at the famous club tattoo, and even re-recording some of the original tracks from the bands earlier albums, however as well know Chester lost his battle with depression. Some time had passed and Sean Dodwell one of the bands original foundering members reached out to Chester’s; family about finishing what he and Chester had discussed in 2017. With the families wishes he and Mace Beyers, Cristin Davies along with some amazing producers set to work on breathing new life into these songs. Using the original tapes from 20 years ago. And the results are breath taking. I was lucky enough to interview Mace about the album and Chester.
Honestly this album is an emotional roller-coaster but the work and dedication that went into this album is incredible everyone has poured their heart and soul into it. And this is why it’s my number 1 album of 2020
#2 Deftones Ohms I don’t know really what to say that has not been said about this album, it’s the follow up to 2016 Gore in in my opinion this is miles ahead of gore, it feels the guys went back to an earlier sound that of white pony, it’s just amazing and one to put on and just sit back relax and hear the amazing sounds that only Deftones can offer.
#3 Trivium what the dead men say in all honesty it’s hard for me not to put this in my top 2, it’s so strong and I feel that Trivium have really found something with this I loved their previous two albums Silence in the snow and The sin and the sentence, but they in reality those albums where the ground work to what was being for this album, its heavy, its fast and brutal and see’s Trivium in my opinion hit their best form to date.
#4 Lamb of God -Lamb of God this is LOG first album without Chris Adler who had this unique sound, and I took me a couple of listens with this album to truly apricate Art cruiz the new mam behind the kits style, and in all honesty as much as I miss Chris Adler this is log BEST ALBUM in a long time.
#5 Killer be killed Reluctant hero ,KILLER BE KILLED is Greg Puciato (The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Black Queen), Troy Sanders (Mastodon, Gone Is Gone), Max Cavalera (Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy, ex-Sepultura) and Ben Koller (Converge, Mutoid Man, All Pigs Must Die)
This album is just amazing, you don’t get time with this album to breath as each track rolls perfectly into the next, this has a bit of black sabbthy style riffs to punk to hardcore to thrash just awesome
#6 Creeper Sex death and the infinite void, this album was a great follow up from Creeper, offers to perfect bland of Rock with Emotional tones achieving the band a top 5 in 2020,
#7 Biffy Clyro A celebration of endings, this caught me off guard as I did not think this album was going to be so good, I have not enjoyed a Biffy album since only revolutions as that was so strong every song on that album felt like it could be a single, Biffy were album to secure a number 1 album with this and for me it just shows why Andy Copping and Download Festival are right to put their faith in them to headliner the main stage at next year’s Download festival for only their second time.
#8 Ozzy Osbourne no ordinary man, this perhaps is the album I have heard from Ozzy in recent years where I get to sit back and go Ozzy you have delivered, I know many are torn over it as there are a host of amazing musicians that appear on the album from Slash, Duff. But for me it’s so good and it feels that if this is to be to prince of darkness last album then it’s a perfect one to end on.
#9 LOATHE `I let it in and it took everything, believe me when I say this, I wish I could put this album higher up the list but it’s been that dam good of a year for music, however this debut album is out of this world a slight Deftones feel to this album amazing.
#10 All time Low wake up sunshine this is a band that when they announced they was going to release their 9th Album I was a bit on the fence I felt they had lost their way with their later albums. However, wake up sunshine is a great return to form and I feel they have really found the perfect balance between earlier material and now.
#11 Green Day Farther of All MotherFuckers what I loved about this album is yet again Green Day are not afraid to change the game with their sound, this album is completely different to anything before it, it has this vibe of like a 50’s Rock n roll feel love it
#12 Five finger death punch F8 sees a great return to form for Five fingers death punch for their 8th album packed with the sound of five finger death punch but this an album that feels. More personal
#13 Phoxjaw Royal swan, is Phoxjaw debut album an album that takes so many different paths, and I really enjoyed that it does not stick to just one path
#14 Pearl Jam Gigaton Pearl Jam return with their 10th Album and the follow up to 2013 Lighting Bolt, there are moments of excitement but this is more of a slower paced album than lightning bolt.
#15 Machine Gun Kelly tickets to my downfall so MGK has gone down a different path, the joke is Eminem Kill shot in response to MGK rap devil made MGK go into to the pop punk game with this
album he has teamed up with Travis Barker from Blink 182, and the results of this album are surprising go
#16 Enter shikari nothing is true & everything is, I know this may not please many but Enter shikari is a band I have never really gotten into but this album had me hooked just so good and its one that takes so many twists and turns was one that caught me off guard at how good it is
#17 Bush The kingdom I will admit I have heard the name of this band for many years but never really took the time to listen to what they had to offer, well what a mistake the kingdom is stanning packed with Rif and
#18 Seether Si Vis Pacem, para Bellum, the album title stands for if you want peace prepare for war. Seether are a band I have loved since 2005, their grunge rock sound with heavy tones is something I just really love to hear them, this album is their best in a while, its heavy in your face and angry
#19 Kill The Lights the sinner , so this was a last minute changed around and honestly its been so hard to rank this albums this year, it has been such a strong year, however this album reminded me so much of Bullet for my valentine debut album and I’m trying not say it’s because of Moose their ex drummer but this album has the hunger, the fire that that debut album from Bullet had this is such an amazing debut album
#20 Anchor Lane Casino Anchor lane is a band who starting to make some really big noise in the scene they’re about to make their second appearance at next year’s Download Festival and that takes me doing when you’re still finding your way as a band, their debut album is just so much fun to listen to, check out Setting The Tone’s Interview with https://mcdn.podbean.com/mf/web/9csjvq/Conor_Gaffney_Anchor_Lane_interview_final_mix60ngp.mp3
Some that despite their sheer brilliance did not quite get into the top 20 list
#21 The Used Heart work a good album from the used for me it went a bit strange in the middle of the album
#22 Orbital junction Egos and Instincts I love this genre so much the riffs are sludgy and it’s just a great album to chill out too
#23 Alpha wolf a quiet place to die is a great follow up to their debut album mono, its heavy and one that will go over very well live
#24 Haken virus Haken Virus is just incredible within the first few tracks I was hooked and wanted to add the rest of this awesome bands back catalogue, I admit it took a Facebook advert for me to try this out I knew very little of this band. I’m just happy I tried
#25 Boston Manor Glue Boston Manor is a band I got into a few years back and have never looked back, Glue is a great alternative it’s a great rock album.
I picked this has I’ve liked this bands previous work, there is great energy from this album and is different from everything else on this list

New Episode Out Now
ANURYZM - Ruby Demon
Lebanese-UAE progressive metal frontrunners ANURYZM return with their long-awaited new single and stunning animated video 'Ruby Demon'.
Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/y4oaFRPxlvI
The band comment: “2020 has certainly brought its host of demons. But we wanted to end the year by marking our return with a song that would resonate with everyone. 'Ruby Demon' is a labour of love which took months of composition, arrangement, scripting, and designing; and we could not have accomplished this feat without the wonderfully talented people that we call family. We truly hope that you are left in jaw-dropping amazement.”
Formed in 2003, ANURYZM are one of the prominent forces in middle-eastern rock and metal, and the leading progressive metal band. Having gone through various line-up changes, dealt with the tragic death of a founding guitarist and spent time honing their sound, by the 2010s they were a true musical force to be reckoned with.
Following the release of debut album Worm’s Eye View (2011), the band earned supports with many prominent acts such as Avenged Sevenfold, Yngwie Malmsteen, Scorpions, Nightwish, Epica, Dark Tranquillity, Myrath, Orphaned Land as well as Black Sabbath at the iconic Du Arena, in Abu Dhabi.
In 2014 ANURYZM hit the studio to write their next album and sought help from guest musicians Michael Lepond (Symphony X), Uri Dijk, Charlie Zeleny, and composer Christopher Chaplin. 2015 saw the release of second album All Is Not for All via Melodic Revolution Records and in 2016 embarked on their ‘Awakening the Humanoids’ European tour, playing cities in Germany, Holland, and Belgium. 2019 saw the band appear at festivals in Lebanon and Romania, as well as a unique showcase event with Sceptic Flesh in Dubai.
After relocating to Canada in 2018 the band set out write new material for their next album, with new members Simen Sandnes on drums, and Rami Lakkis bass. 2019 saw the departure of long-time vocalist Nadeem Bibby and the introduction of new vocalist Will Patterson.
The long anticipated follow up to All Is Not for All is planned for 2021, more news soon.
ANURYZM are:
John Bakhos - guitars
Jay Jahed - synthesizers
Will Patterson - vocals
Rami Lakkis - bass guitars
Simen Sandnes - drums
My thoughts
Ruby is a track that takes straight away reminds of a classic dream theatre, it’s a track that takes on so many different forms, there are many layers to this track from guitars, vocals and synth, and I feel this is what makes this stand out from current prog tracks, great production with some killer guitars that pack some punch and vocals that switch between melodic hooks and more aggressive tones. With so many layers that are blended beautiful what should not be missed is the awesome synth tones that just naturally bring it all home, overall an incredible track to kick things off with, also on a side note the video is so cool.

My thoughts
Marigold Moon took me a couple of listens to get my head around to what is happening on this track, overall, the production is crisp, the intro reminded me of Alex is on fire track young cardinals with its opening riff, the track for takes cues from kings of Leon meets Royal blood which is cool, I really enjoyed the way the guitars builds throughout the track and the different tones from the guitars, my only criticism would be and I trying to be as polite as possible the chorus did not pull me in a felt it was bit mundane.
Moving over to our next single the returns of a band I really enjoyed their EP this year.
Dohny Jep - Looking In
My thoughts I start by addressing the elephant in the room the beauty of this band is they are inspired by the likes of Don Broco and Bring me the horizon, they use this inspiration to create their own unique musical journey, looking in is packed with different layers that have a natural fit, nothing with this track feels forced, it has a great organic feel. Filled with guitars that punch natural hooks and awesome melodies and a chorus that soars. This is one to add to your playlist and you should not turn a blind eye too
Looking is taken from the upcoming EP Smile It May Never Happen keep an eye out for the. This release.

Denmark's current hottest export SIAMESE have just dropped a video for new single 'Can't Force The Love'. The award-winning post-hardcore outfit blend heavy riffs with soaring melodic vocals in this hook-filled track. |
My thoughts
Force the love is a strong single packed with melody and a chorus with a natural hook, guitars sounds that really hit hard, Siamese have really delivered a great track, packed with influences from bands like apocalyptica and Nightwish I feel the guys have done an incredible job at mixing all these incredible sounds you have the heavy guitars and drums and yet the melodic electronic trance sounds.
Go and give this a listen
Moving on to our next single this week
OKAY so something completely out of my comfort zone and genre I have never even thought I consider looking into
DUB TRIO share a new single via New Damage Records titled 'Them Thing Deh Dub' featuring BENJI WEBBE of Skindred on vocals.
Listen on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/o5GB9JFl5I8
Stream here: https://fanlink.to/DubTrio
'Them Thing Deh Dub' is a cover of 'Them Thing Deh' by legendary reggae artist Ini Zamoze.
"We're putting this song out for the love of it. We knew we wanted to do a track that paid homage to our forefathers of reggae and dub, rhythm section greatness, Sly and Robbie. They have been an endless source of inspiration to us as a band from the beginning,” shares DUB TRIO’s Stu Brooks. “So, as helicopters swarmed over Hollywood during BLM protests, my wife and I felt compelled to finally break quarantine. As we approached Hollywood and Vine to join in solidarity with the protesters, ‘Them Thing Deh’ happened to be the soundtrack in my headphones. The lyric “got to keep your cool” really spoke to me as I could feel the tension in the air. That week, we quickly put the rhythm tracks together, recording from three different states, with the help of Roger Rivas on organ and keys and hit up our old friend, legend Benji Webbe. Benji is the ultimate genre-masher, soulfully clashing metal, reggae, punk, dub, dancehall... all the sh*t we love!”
Among the band members' many production and recording projects, Stu Brooks had the honour to track the bass for Danny Elfman's first solo single in 36 years, 'Happy'. It is available now and can be found here: https://dannyelfman.ffm.to/happy
DUB TRIO released their 5th full-length album The Shape of Dub to Come on New Damage Records in 2019, with praise from Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Consequence of Sound, Revolver, Noisey, Brooklyn Vegan, New Noise Magazine, Submerge Magazine, and more. An homage to titles such as Refused’s The Shape of Punk to Come and Ornette Coleman’s The Shape of Jazz to Come, The Shape of Dub to Come’s groove hinges on slower stoner-inspired sludge riffing. The release was followed by touring across the United States and Europe, including direct support on the Incubus tour. The acclaimed LP was announced with 'World of Inconvenience [feat. King Buzzo]' at Rolling Stone, who called it, “Heavy, trippy… a crafty, atmospheric hybrid." 'Fought The Line [feat. Troy Sanders]' followed via Consequence of Sound, "The creepy, script-flipping video speaks to the song’s heavy lyrical theme." With 'Forget My Name Dub [feat. Meshell Ndegeocello]', they usher dub into new territory like only they can.
Purchase The Shape of Dub to Come here: http://smarturl.it/DubTrio
Over nearly two decades together, Brooklyn’s DUB TRIO - Stu Brooks [bass], DP Holmes [guitar], andJoe Tomino [drums] - not only delivered a string of albums that forever redefined the term “dub” under cover of metal, punk, alternative, and shoegaze, but also infused its musical prowess into the studio recordings and the shows of genre-bending icons ranging from Mike Patton to Lady Gaga.

My thoughts so Like I said at the start this is something that I’m not in my comfort zone and feel like a massive intruder but we give this a guy, personally I quite enjoyed this track its melodic and an easy listen, some lovely production on the track with different sounds and different effects within the track, if you’re a fan of reggae then go and check this out Dub war sound like a lot of fun

My thoughts
Enjoying the end is A fantastic debut album from Joshua and David, as I was listening to this album I often found myself trying to pinpoint where does the album fit into scene, because honestly it has so many different directions everything form The sounds and styles of Linkin park, to Twenty one Pilots all the way through to Motley crue to electronic wizardry and influence of the Pet shop boys , there is literally something on this album for anyone, the production is crisp and clean and this album switches effortlessly between different sounds from different genres, go and check this out
For fans of Twenty One Pilots, Blink 182, 30 seconds to mars
Moving on to our next single this week we have Joy in Blue who are a four piece Post hardcore band based in Portsmouth, the band launched in 2020 with the release of their debut single Old Roads which was then closely followed by their second single places. My thoughts
So this In Joy Blue 3rd single and their first with a video, , Sunflower is packed with a melodic tones and a lovely hooks, it has a really nice feel tom the track and is well produced for a large part of this track it does not changed course now this not a bad thing and out of now its kicks into life I kind of would have liked a bit more of this intensity as for most of the track it did not feel like it was going anywhere, but this would be my only criticism , its clear that this is a band that are starting their journey and that’s fine, its will be interested to see how they grow and their material develops over time., for fans of
Moving onto our next release and we are going to Europe

LANDMVRKS are back with a vengeance. After successfully building their reputation through asserting their own style on 2018 masterpiece Fantasy, the band returned last month both fresher and heavier before with their new single 'Rainfall'. Their upcoming third album, Lost In The Waves, is their heaviest and most organic album to date with an uncompromising, distinctive style. This is LANDMVRKS in their purest form.
Lost In The Waves will be available as CD, limited vinyl in two different colour variants and a limited special fan box. Pre-order here: https://Landmvrks.lnk.to/lostinthewaves
LANDMVRKS formed in 2014 in Marseille, France, and are now comprised of Florent Salfati on vocals, Rudy Purkart on bass guitar, Nicolas Exposito and Paul C. Wilson on guitars, with Kévin D’Agostino on drums.
The band spent two years writing and recording material and playing local shows, building their reputation within the French metalcore scene with a series of singles. In May 2016, LANDMVRKS self-released their debut album Hollow, which was produced entirely by Salfati and Exposito. Following the release of Hollow the band ventured on tours throughout Europe, enticing new fans with their modern metalcore style, peppered with hardcore riffs and catchy choruses. The record also landed them slots on big festivals, strengthening their reputation even further.
In 2018 LANDMVRKS signed a record deal with Arising Empire, releasing their second studio album Fantasy. Continuing to build their name with their own fresh take on metalcore, LANDMVRKS went on to travel the world, playing in Japan, embarking on several headline tours and supporting While She Sleeps and Stray From The Path on a UK/European tour.
While they were out on the road LANDMVRKS focused on writing brand new material, including latest single 'Rainfall' which showcases a powerful new direction from the French band, one that is more mature, melodic, and deeper than before.
LANDMVRKS have announced tour dates for 2021, including a UK/European tour with special guests Resolve and Wolfpack.

My thoughts with an opening Riff I would expect to hear on a Deftones track and ten quickly into guitar tones I would expect to hear from Machine Head, okay so I’m not expecting none of this but I like and boarding the train, I really love the production and energy on this track, it feels like it is packed with so many different influences ranging form Machine head, Defrtones, and Linkin Park, Fever 333.I really enjoyed Lost in a wave its heavier in your face and has so much energy awesome.
